How do shadows change?

We planned an investigation to see how a shadow changes when the light source is moved further away.
We had to make sure we made it a fair test so we only changed one variable.

Can you describe our investigation to an adult at home and tell them what we found out?

Our Finished Poetry Book

How are shadows made?

We took advantage of the sunny day today and used the opportunity to draw round our shadows on the playground. Throughout the day we observed how our shadows changed- getting shorter as the sun got higher in the sky.

Visiting poet in Year 3

We had a fantastic visit from Ash Dickinson, a published poet. He shared some of his poems and then helped us write our own.  Look out for our class book coming soon.

Fair testing - which of our materials would be best for a bathroom Windows?

We looked at keeping a test fair . Then tried out our ideas.
Here are our results.

Firework poems

We have been working really hard on our firework poems. On Wednesday we had a visit from the poet Ash Dickenson who helped us to develop our ideas.

Anti-bullying Week

In our Year 3 assembly this week, we talked about the damage that can be done by verbal bullying. Mrs Clark demonstrated this by getting us to say horrible things to an apple! When she cut it open, we were shocked to see how bruised and damaged the apple was on the inside. This shows that when we say unkind things to people, even though we can't see the damage that our words do, it hurts people on the inside.
This picture shows the bullied apple on the right.

Then we discussed why we think bullies hurt people and came up with some ideas about how we can help the bullies to stop.

Science- How does light help us to see?

We investigated if we need light to help us see by placing objects in a black box. We discovered that even shiny objects need light for us to see them. This proved some of our theories wrong!

Can you explain to someone at home how we see objects? Hint- think about our diagram which shows how the man can see the tree!

A whole new world...

Today we started our topic looking at a globe, finding the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere and the Equator. We then used atlases to find countries that have the Equator running through them.
