Interesting Adjectives

We explored language this week by describing some of the items George might have put in his marvellous medicine.

Life is Sweet!

Do you know how much sugar is in the drink you are drinking? We do! As part of our Science topic about balanced diets we collected data about our favourite drinks and made bar charts to show what we found out. Lucozade is the most popular drink in Holly class. Then we ordered the drinks by how much sugar we thought was is each one. Next we found out the sugar content of each drink and measured out in sugar cubes how much sugar was in 250ml of each drink. We were surprised by some of our results! Our conclusion- it's best to drink water or milk as our main drink and have sugary drinks sometimes as a treat.

Marvellous Muscles!

We have been finding out how our muscles help us move. We made a model of our arm using balloons and parts of a construction kit. We found out our muscles work in pairs to make us move. Can you explain to an adult how they work? Remember to use the words, bicep, tricep, contract and extend!

Animal skeletons

We played a game called, "Whose bones are those?" We had to guess which skeleton belonged to which animal. Some were really easy to guess. Others, especially the rabbit, were really hard! Then we made skeleton pictures using black paper and art straws.

Investigating which of our favourite drinks is the healthiest

We looked at the food labels on these drinks to see how much sugar there was in them. We had to make sure it was fair so we looked at 1 litre amounts. The amount of sugar was measured in grams. In the photo we used sugar cubes ( 5 grams each) to show the results.
We were most surprised by the amount of sugar in apple juice!

Labelling the bones on a skeleton

Today we looked at what different bones in our body are called. We knew lots of common names and began to learn their scientific names.

Partitioning to subtract with exchanging

Today we used base 10 to help us understand the concept of exchanging or 'borrowing'.

We have thought about how to balance in different ways on different parts of our bodies.

Then we started our class read George's Marvellous Medicine and role played being Granny and George.

After lunch we watched the story of 'Bear feels sick' and talked about how we can make ourselves feel better if we have a cold.
Finally we went to the computer room and did some coding!

Welcoming the new year...

Happy New Year!
The last two days has seen us
- planning and writing a recount about our Christmas Day
-  thinking about a gift we each could give the world that would make it a better place
- exploring place value using base 10 apparatus
- and finally comparing numbers up to 1000.

Next week we have a NO Pen Day to look forward to as well as beginning our class reader George's Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl. If your child has a copy of the book it would be great if they could bring it in BUT please put their name inside.
